In June a setback with a bout on pancreatitis put Sophie back on the ward for two weeks, in reality it took much longer to get over the episode.  As the summer progressed, gradually Sophie made incremental improvements and things like the dressing changes became less involved.  Sophie's school, who have been so supportive during this whole time, were able to take all her GCSE coursework and evidence and given the COVID pandemic and no seated exams taking place, were able to make their Teacher Assessments.  The exam boards accepted the submitted grades with the supporting letters from her doctors and consultants and she was delighted with the grades she achieved, but importantly was able accepted onto her chosen A-Level courses at the same school.

Sophie, thinking ahead to going back to school, received a lovely wig from The Little Princess Trust and she wore this to a friends get together...

With a few weeks left of August, thankfully the daily visits to hospital were reduced to two a week, this was great news, the fungal infection was being treated well and now only needed maintenance drugs to keep things at bay while also in maintenance with her chemotherapy.

So where are we now? Sophie is well into maintenance chemotherapy and this is daily oral tablets, monthly lumber puncher treatment.  We get good days and low days, being back at school has been great for her to have a focus on something other than cancer, but wears her out quite quickly.  We hope there won't be too many complications along the way to February 2023 when the maintenance chemo comes to an end.

Sophie and I have throughly enjoyed rehearsing for ELOC's Sing Out To Help Out charity concert, raising money for the Central Play Team and Youth Support Worker.  Find out more about the show that took place in October this year.

Lastly, Emma, Sophie and I wanted to say a massive thank you to the NHS Staff, the Charities, our family, friends and ELOC for being so supportive these last 12 months. You are all amazing and wonderful people.
