The wounds on Sophie's inside thighs were really bad, dressing change was just terrible, Sophie was given entonox along with other strong pain killers to help her get through the ordeal.
On the 26th November, after 32 days in intensive care (PICU), Sophie was moved onto Pickney Ward. We had become very used to the routines and staff that going to a new ward was quite an anxious time. Thankfully we settled in quite quickly, the room had some benefits, there was a good view out over London, there was a fridge, TV, on-suite toilet and shower facility. The sofa bed was OK and Emma and I would now be sleeping in the room with Sophie.

Even though Sophie was out of PICU, there were weekly challenges we had to face, blood pressure, high potasium levels, low potasium levels, physio, various scans, liquid food, blood thinning injections and to cap it all on Chrismas Day she had to undergo a minor operation to remove a large collection of fluid from arround her heart.
Determined to still have the traditional smoked salmon and cream cheese on a toasted bagel for breakfast on Christmas morning, given the NIL by mouth (because of the procedure) we got up at 03:15 to enjoy breakfast. The staff on Pickney Ward were amazing on Christmas Day, even though they were working, there was definatley a sense of festive fun.
