Supporting one of our junior members, ELOC is delighted to be raising money for two very important charities for Sophie. In October 2020 Sophie was complaining of a sore leg, which turned out to be a nasty infection, a week later she was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Antibiotics to fight the infection caused her body to react badly (Stevens Johnson Syndrome) and after an operation to clean the infection, she spent over a month in Intensive Care at St Georges, London fighting the many complications that came her way.
After this critical time, she was moved to Pickney Ward at the same hospital where she gradually improved. After three months, Sophie was well enough to move to The Royal Marsden Teenage Cancer Trust in Sutton. A month later, Sophie was discharged from the ward, but remained a daily visitor to the hospital for her various treatments.
During her time at St Georges and The Royal Marsden, the services of the Central Play Team and the Youth Support Worker was essential to motivate, distract, provide a change of scenery and encourage interaction with others during very difficult and testing times.
Sophie is on the road to recovery and hopes to be starting her A Levels this autumn while continuing all her treatments.
Thank you for supporting ELOC and these two great charities whose staff provide essential services for young patients at these hospitals. We hope you will come to the Epsom Playhouse and enjoy a wonderful evening of musical theatre where ELOC will be singing some of your favourite numbers from popular musicals like Dear Evan Hansen, Waitress, Once, Les Miserables, Calamity Jane and many more.
